Thirsty Thursday - Spiked Cherry Cokes

I don't know about you but when the weather and seasons change so do my drink preferences. In the summer I crave crisp and refreshing beverages while in the fall and winter months I prefer something hearty and flavorful. After browsing through Pinterest I found the perfect cocktail to transition into fall with - Spiked Cherry Cokes.

Ingredients:
  • Cherry flavored vodka
  • Coca-Cola, Pepsi or any brand of cola (I use Diet)
  • 1 jar maraschino cherries
Directions:
  • Fill a tumbler with ice
  • Pour in 1 shot of cherry flavored vodka
  • Fill rest of tumbler with cola
  • Add 1 spoonful of maraschino cherry juice
  • Top with cherries
  • Enjoy!
What is your favorite fall/winter beverage?

My Morning Routine

This post is inspired by the hundreds of YouTube videos I see posted about morning routines from vloggers and beauty guru's. And I just want to call bullshit. No ones morning goes that calmly or perfectly. And if it does - I hope you step on a Lego. Below is an example of my typical weekday morning routine.

My Morning Routine

4:30 a.m.
Awake suddenly and violently thinking I missed my alarm. Look at phone and see I have 30 more minutes to sleep only to realize I have to pee. I then have a silent battle with myself trying to decide if I should hop out of bed to pee or lay there for 30 minutes with a bursting bladder.

4:40 a.m.
Begrudgingly get out of bed to pee. Stub toe on dresser while walking out of bedroom which wakes the sleeping dog who thinks I'm now an intruder. Stumble over the dog and run down the stairs to the bathroom. No toilet paper. Sprint to kitchen closet for toilet paper and then back to bathroom.

4:41 a.m.
Run back up the stairs so the creatures of the night don't get me. Stub toe on bedpost while climbing into bed.

5:00 a.m.
Alarm goes off. Struggle to locate phone on the nightstand in the dark. Drop it in between nightstand and bed. Wake up Mitch who is confused thinking HIS alarm is going off. Yell at him: "I dropped my fucking phone! Its not yours! AkjdkfjsRGH!"

5:01 a.m.
Find phone. Pull blankets over my head to hide the cellphone light so I don't wake up Mitch again and browse through facebook/instagram/twitter. Drop phone on my face.

5:05 a.m.
Slither out of bed and into the bathroom to shower. Normally I manage to get shampoo or face wash in my eyes, lose my balance and then nearly fall and crack my skull open on side of the tub. This instantly wakes me up so I  don't need coffee right away.

5:15a.m.
Turn off shower. Reach for towels - FORGOT to get towels. Sadly shake my naked body to get some of the water off then step out of shower and walk across the cold bathroom floor to the towel rack.

5:20 a.m.
Put in my contacts. Moisturize and prime my face before layering pounds of make up on to hide the dark circles. Most mornings I drop the mascara wand on my face or smudge my eyeliner and then have to wipe away half of the freshly applied make up to clean off the black mascara/eyeliner mess. If this doesnt happen - I consider the day a great success.

5:40 a.m.
Turn on straightener to warm it up. Blow dry hair haphazardly and in no clear direction because no one has time for a "blow out" at 5am. Reach for straightener and burn fingers. At this point I normally give up and half ass style my hair hoping that it looks more "intentionally messy" instead of "homeless crack head messy."

6:00 a.m.
Rummage through closet like a raccoon trying to find something to wear. Pull 15 shirts, 3 skirts, 4 pairs of pants and high school prom dress out of the closet. Crazily try everything on and then settle on one of the same 5-6 outfits I wear weekly. I typically leave all the other clothes I tried on in a heaping pile on the floor so I have something to complain about when I get home from work.

6:20 a.m.
Throw on some accessories and pack an extra sweater or jacket into my work bag in case I get cold or spill something on myself throughout the day. Run downstairs to look in fridge for some sort of breakfast food to go. Run back upstairs to get shoes. Run downstairs to find car keys. Gather purse, work bag, etc.

6:30 a.m.

Run out the door and into the car. Get halfway down the road and remember I left my cellphone on the nightstand. Proceed to have a Matthew Perry moment ......

...and then turn around to get cellphone.

7:01 a.m.

Arrive at work and start my day.

Please tell I am not the only one with a morning routine like this?

Sincerely & Sarcastically,

Nancy

RED LIGHT.. Green Light Blogging.

How many times can someone stop and start the same blog before Blogger tells the person- "No. Just.. no.. please just give up."  Every time I think of my blog it reminds me of a version of the elementary gym game "red light, green light." You know that one? A couple years ago I had some momentum but just like in the game someone screamed RED LIGHT and I was caught and sent to the bleachers to be a bystander.

ANYWAY, not going to explain why I haven't blogged because the reason is simply that I didn't want to. I thought about it. Wrote down ideas on napkins, post its and the back of my hand when I got a hint of inspiration. But that normally fizzled out before I could ever sit down at the computer. Whenever I did find a tinge of inspo (is that what the cool kids call it now?) I would mess with the blog design and royally fuck it up. See?

The other day I got caught in a "blogger trap" where I started to read a new post from a blogger who had a "You Might Also Like..." section on their blog and next thing I knew I was back in their 2013 archives. I felt such a sense of nostalgia that I went back to my own archives and looked at old posts. While some (most) of them are embarrassing it was fun to look back and re-live some of those posts and moments.
jimmyfallon, awkward,

A couple things I noticed while strolling down the memory lanes of my blog archives:

1) I was much more whitty back then.. or at least I think so.
2) I LOVED GIFS. I used them as often as I could.
3) I can't believe I never told anyone about my blog besides Paco (and I never actually told him, he kind of just figured it out.) I wish I made it public in the beginning and told friends/family because I feel like I would have done more with it if I was brave enough to share it with them.

So do me a favor if you happen to stumble upon this post - go through a couple of my archives and try not to judge or laugh at my writing. THEN go to your archives and do the same. It's fun. I promise!

Sincerely and ALWAYS Sarcastically,

Nancy

Happy Monday - Tales of my Weekend

Happy Monday Y'all. Today I'm reporting live from the struggle bus. It was a long weekend and I'm running on just a few hours of sleep. So my apologizes in advance for the rambling that will ensue.

Friday I skipped out of work a little early because the weather was dreary and I had tickets for a local opera performance of Sweeney Todd. We stopped at one of our favorite restaurants for dinner and drinks first. We visit this place at least a couple times a month because we are obsessed and if we lived closer I bet we'd be there weekly. If I was on death row I would request their lemon drop martini and margherita pizza as my last meal.

After shoving our faces with food we headed to Sweeney Todd. It was my first time attending an opera/play and I really enjoyed it.

Of course we didn't go home after the show but instead went to a local bar and drank way too many vodka and red bulls. When will I learn that my 29 year old self cannot pull all-nighters like I used to? Holy hell. Never again (which is a lie and I'm sure I'll do it again sometime in the near future because YOLO.)

I spent most of Sunday doing boring adult crap like cleaning, laundry, and binge watching Grey's Anatomy on Netflix. I scoured Pinterest for hours trying to find a new recipe for dinner before settling for an easy looking shrimp and pasta dish. Butter, garlic, and pasta - how could you go wrong?

I decided to go to a neighboring town's grocery store where I was certain they would have all the ingredients including fresh shrimp. After a slightly irritating shopping trip - (read: extremely f'ing annoying interaction with the seafood counter guy who spoke in baby bird whispers and pig Latin and clearly didn't understand any of the words coming out of my mouth when I asked for "1 pound of fresh, shelled, de-veined shrimp." No seriously.. this guy was not normal. I am starting to wonder if he's actually an employee there or just some lunatic who broke into the seafood section of the store) - I headed home to start cooking.

The end result was okay but I thought the butter taste was overwhelming. The recipe called for a whole stick of butter but I think it would be better with half a stick, fresh garlic, some grated Parmesan cheese and a little white wine. So actually, just re-do the whole recipe and don't follow that one at all.

And then GAME OF THRONES! Like what?!!!!? I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't had a chance to watch it but OMG. jdfishdfiuhsdfs

Linking up with this lady and this lady for Weekending

Sincerely and Sarcastically,

Life Lately: April 2016

I have approximately 50+ unfinished blog posts in my draft folder and no desire to finish them. Although it may appear that I have neglected this space entirely the past few months that is far from the truth. I log in every week to catch up on my favorite bloggers and make sure to jot down any blog post ideas whenever one pops into my head. I am still lacking the motivation to blog but I haven't been lacking the desire to do so. But since I've been radio silent lately I figured a quick update was due.

+ As you can tell I butchered the blog design... I tried to install something myself and it didn't end well.

+ We went on our honeymoon. It was nothing like I ever imagined... in the worst possible way. This story/debacle deserves its own series of posts so please stay tuned. HOWEVER, I will tell you to never visit RIU Palace in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

+ I'm still married. Even after the honeymoon from hell as I can joking call it now after months of mental healing.

+ We survived winter.

+ I signed up for Stitchfix. Finally. I have been wanting to try it ever since Erin at Living in Yellow mentioned it months (maybe years?) ago. You simply create an account online and fill out your style profile and then a Stitchfix stylist will look through your profile and mail you 5 items of clothing. You can keep whatever items you like and pay for those items or mail them all back. Visit their website for more information.

+ This summer I plan on tackling a few house projects. First up is re-doing the living room area. I am going to re-carpet and paint the entire room. I have NO idea what colors or theme I want to go with so any tips would be much appreciated. The whole room is a blank canvas so the options are endless which is very overwhelming. Can I paint oak trim white? Or is that not a thing?

+ I joined the world of Snapchat  - follow along: nansee24

+ I just ate a chocolate chip cookie after vowing I would eat only healthy things all day. I lasted 3 hours. *sigh*

+ I signed up for Helene's e-course MONTHS ago and haven't explored it yet but I am excited to start that hopefully soon.

+ We're planning a trip to Chicago this summer and I've been browsing Taylor's blog archives for must see attractions and eateries. Any travel tips?

And I guess that is all for now..

Sincerely,

Nancy

Life Lately - 2016 Edition

Welcome to 2016! I hope you all had a great New Year! I'm going to take it easy today since I'm suffering from the post holiday blues and give you a short update of what's going on.

- First and foremost - Making a Murderer on Netflix. WHAT?! If you're not currently watching this PLEASE stop whatever you are doing and go watch this documentary series on Netflix right now. There are no words to describe how incredible it is.

- Working on my sister's baby shower. She is due with her 2nd child in May and I am over the moon excited. We're planning a shower for the middle of March with a color scheme of baby blue and gold.

- Starting the 21 Day Fix. Anyone else use this program? It seems pretty legit and straight forward. It's all based on eating healthy portions of real foods and exercise. I have been uncomfortable in my skin for the past few months and with our upcoming honeymoon in February I wanted to get back on track and tone up so I can frolic carelessly on the beach in a bikini. My only concern is the meal prepping part.. it's a lot of work.

- Organizing spare rooms that are filled to the brim with wedding stuff. After the wedding I threw everything in totes and boxes and never looked at them again. This weekend I started the process of sorting through that mess but I still have a long way to go. I haven't even touched our wedding photos yet (sneak peak below.)

- I'm feeling crafty lately. I'm trying to think of something fun to do with our wedding cards. I originally planned on hole punching and binding them together to create a book.. but I think I might want to do something more creative with them. Any ideas?

- Winter has FINALLY hit NEPA. Right now The Weather Channel says it's 5 degrees outside but feels like -13 so that is kind of soul crushing. Tomorrow doesn't look much better.

- I finally embraced the world of Starbucks. Hi, my name is Nancy and I'm addicted to Starbucks. Thankfully I don't live near one because otherwise I would try to live in a Starbucks, work at a Starbucks, marry the founder of Starbucks, and have perfect little Starbucks babies and name them Vanilla Bean Cream and Salted Caramel Mocha. I am alarmed at how quickly my love for them escalated.
