Blogtober Day 6: 10 Things I Told Myself When I Started Blogging

Helene in Between Blogtober

Today’s prompt is “10 Things I Told Myself When I Started Blogging” which is very appropriate since I'm still trying to figure out how this works. Just today I said the following things:

“I can’t believe you figured out how to buy and link a domain."
“F" YOU HTML! Where is that tutorial for creating blog buttons?”
“Why would you post that, you idiot?”

Other things I keep telling myself as I blog

1 > Proof read.
(I type as fast as I speak, which is similar to one of those cattle auctioneers, so I will miss complete words or even sentences.. please forgive me for the typos for the time being.)

2> Just write.
(Type. Write. Anything. Just get it down on paper/screen.)

(I am notorious for forgetting to take photos. I’m always too embarrassed to stop and take a photo or to ask someone to take a photo of me.... I don’t know why but I’m working on it.)

4> Tell people you’re doing this so it isn’t weird when they find out.
(STILL haven’t done this.)

5> You need a hobby.
(Besides drinking.. so this can supplement that. Hopefully.)

6> Take it one post at a time.
(Insert Rome wasn’t built in a day cliché here.)

7> Don’t get discouraged.
(I have the self-esteem of a slug on some days. I don’t know why, I just do. It is far too easy for me to talk myself out of doing something but I’m hoping this will help me with that.)

8> I hope I don’t need a Mac Book Pro to do this...
(It is the official computer of blogging apparently but I just can’t spend that kind of dough on a laptop. I'm still on Team Desktop for crying out loud!)

9> Don’t be afraid to reach out to other bloggers.
(It has taken me years to comment on other blogs. I didn’t want people to think I was some nerd stalking them. I thought only bloggers were allowed to comment so I kept my distance but still felt like a creepy stalker. It wasn’t until recently that I started reaching out and its been great.)

(The whole reason I started this thing was because I was tired of the monotony of life - I needed something else. Don't let this become a burden and remember to enjoy it.)

What are things you told yourself when you started?

  1. This entire list is me. The whole thing haha. In complete agreement with you. & yesss, someone else without a Mac! I feel like I'm the only one with Windows anymore.

  2. I love this list! Your header is completely me:) Thanks for sharing Nancy!

  3. I'm pretty sure that 10 of these could be mine too!
Slowly building up to #4 because, you're so right, it's way more awkward when someone finds out on their own (although telling people is still pretty freaking awkward).

  4. I'm glad I am not the only one who keeps their blog a secret! I know once I tell my friends about it they will want to see, and I don't think I am ready for it! Also I definitely agree with number 3...I just need to get over the narcissistic hurdle of asking people to take pictures of me!
